Introducing Whisky Trails

The Water of Life

Uisge-beatha or “The Water of Life” is the national drink of Scotland.  Only three ingredients go into Scotch; golden barley which grows abundantly in the Scottish climate, our soft clear clean water, and yeast.  Only whisky that is made from these three ingredients, is distilled in Scotland, and matured here for a minimum of three years and one day, can carry the globally recognised designation of “Scotch”.

Tours and Tasting Experiences

Whisky Trails is specialised provider of personalised Whisky Distillery Experiences across Scotland. From our base in Inverness-shire in the Highlands, we provide private small group customised tours to all Scottish Distilleries with a particular focus on Speyside and Highland Distilleries.

Tour Duration and Locations

The total duration of your tour is dependent on your starting location and ranges from 8 hours for Inverness based departures to 12 for Glasgow or Edinburgh departures.  If you do not see your departure point listed or are unsure which to select, please do get in contact so we can tailor your very own Whisky Trail for you.

Combination Tours

As you can tell from the company name, our focus here is on the Whisky!  Should you wish to take a scenic tour with the option of incorporating a visit to a whisky or gin distillery, or even a craft brewery, please contact our sister company Highland Day Tours and they will be delighted to craft a tour for you.

What are our customers saying about us?

Brett was an amazing tour guide, knowledgeable about the whisky and countryside, and overall a great host. The tour was well planned and customizable to our travel plans. We started at Glenlivet, followed by lunch at Glennfiddich, and lastly Macallan. As an added bonus, we stopped at Walker shortbread cookie company for a snack and pick up some souvenir gifts.

Nathalie, USA, travelled with us August 2019

My cousin booked a private tour for three of us and it was fantastic! The vehicle was clean & comfortable, Brett provided a lot of information during the drive between each distillery and he was very knowledgeable when it came to the scotch whiskey. Brett is familiar with the employees at each distillery so you receive prompt service. I would book a tour with Brett when/if I’m back in Scotland.

Amy, USA travelled with us in October 2019

This was probably the best possible way to discover the Highlands. After a short talk Brett, our driver, was able to propose just the right experiences for our needs. I wasn’t very interested in Whisky tasting itself (although I drank some excellent whisky at Glenfiddich and Cragganmore), but came here to learn how Whisky is made.

So our tour included one huge, one big and one small distillery, the option to have an talk with one of the masters of the craft as well as a tour around the Speyside cooperage, where I learned about how to treat, use and choose the right cask for the Whisky I want to make.

Expectations exceeded and well worth the money!

Absolutely fantastic tour round the big 3 distilleries, Glenfiddich, Macallan and Glenlivet. Brilliant and very knowledgeable guide, great hosting and a very comfortable vehicle to tour around in. We highly recommend anyone to join Whisky Trails on this wonderful tour.
